World Record Wave Surfed

It seems that Garrett McNamara just broke the world record for largest wave surfed by successfully navigating this 90-foot wall of watery death in Nazaré, Portugal. The previous record—77 feet—was set by Mike Parsons in 2008.

Japan Tsunami Maximum Wave Amplitude

The Honshu tsunami was generated by a Mw 8.9 earthquake (38.322°N, 142.369°E ), at 05:46 UTC, 130 km (80 miles) E of Sendai, Honshu, Japan (according to the USGS). In approximately 25 minutes, the tsunami was first recorded at DART® buoy 21418. The forecast results shown were created with the NOAA forecast method using MOST model with the tsunami source inferred from DART® data.

The graphics display forecast results, showing qualitative and quantitative information about the tsunami, including tsunami wave interaction with ocean floor bathymetric features, and neighboring coastlines. Tsunami model amplitude information is shown color-coded according the scale bar.

A great post at chartporn dot org regarding this year's high temperatures. And it's pretty ironic: Here in south Texas, we set a record last summer with 59 days of 100+ temps. The previous record was something like 37 days.

I don't think we've hit 100 yet this year!

I know the east coast had a few days of 100+ degrees a few weeks ago, even up north.

However, we were just there (Plattsburgh, NY), and although it was hot, during the week I was there 6 of the days got to about 85-87, and one was beautiful, with a low of 58 and a high of 75 or so. Nothing absurd.

Amateur Video: Huge Wave Crashes Into Cruise Ship

An Italian passenger of the Louis Majesty, Ervino Curtis shot the wave hitting and breaking the glass of portholes, killing two people and wounding many others.
