Rush's Neil Peart On Letterman's Drummers Week - 6/9/2011
Yeah, if it were not for Neil Peart, I would not be the person, let alone the drummer, that I am today. I sat and learned a ton of Rush songs, and played along with a lot of rock music. Iron Maiden, Metallica, a lot of others.. But there is no other drummer who is as great an influence to me than this man. I literally drummed to Moving Pictures start to finish hundreds of times. Then I went back to Permanent Waves, 2112, Farewell To Kings, and Hemispheres.
Ask any great drummer today his major influences, and if he doesn't mention Neil Peart, I'll be shocked.
He's the master.

Introducing: Van Canto
A little background before you hit play. Here is the first paragraph of the "band" area of their official website:
We play Heavy Metal A Capella. Melodic metal songs, arranged for 5 singers and one drummer. All instruments that would be played by musicians in a regular metalband are imitated by our voices. Bass, guitars, solos, keyboard sounds. On top we put two lead singers, a male one and a female one. But we left the drums what they are, as we do not do disco pop. And having a drummer like Bastian it would be a shame not to let him play.
This is a cover of Metallica's "Battery". Today I heard their cover of "Master Of Puppets" on the radio, but it hasn't been released yet, as it's on their upcoming album. If I find it in the meantime, I will certainly post it here - it's incredible! If you are familiar with "Battery" you know it's also a pretty complex song, and so far I'm very impressed by these guys.
They also write their own stuff. In addition to visiting their website, you can find more of their work HERE.
