There are now new videos on the Internets showing that it actually happened.

All videos Via Reddit
∙ "Possible meteorite hits central Russia" - from Reuters
∙ Hundreds hurt after Russian meteor shower - from KSAT12 News, San Antonio
∙ Another very accurate Russian news report - from rt.com
And most national news channels are focusing on the docking of the crippled Carnival cruise ship...

Surviving 2012 and Planet X
Source
That's part 1, and here are the rest.
There's a lot of truth and wonder in this short series. I became a little less supportive during videos 3 & 4, but the fact remains that there is a large mass approaching our solar system. The ramifications would be huge.
Then I see that this series was published in 2007. Hmmm... well, you can say it's old news, but in the complete scope of things space-related, 5 years is actually tiny.

Leap Year Explained
Via / Source
My nephew and his wife are having a baby, and were trying to choose between tomorrow and March 1 for her to be induced. Turns out they won't have the choice, and the little one will be born tomorrow - on February 29th. Hmmm... Very happy for them, but how is this child going to understand his birthday? It'll take a few years...
By the way both of the parents' birthdays are on the 1st of a month.

A Concert Opening
The date was August 4, 2007. The location was "The Backyard" in Austin, TX. The event was Dream Theater's Chaos in Motion Tour. After Redemption, and Into Eternity wrapped up their sets.. this is how Dream Theater opened up the show:

...And it   t o t a l l y   b l e w   m e   a w a y.   I spent 4+ years trying now & then to find a great video of it, but for some reason, "2001 Space Odyssey", "Dream Theater Intro Chaos concert", and the like, weren't good search terms. It wasn't until yesterday that I stumbled upon the term "Also Sprach Zarathustra" attached to one of the vids I found.
Long story short, who would've thought that the little 2-minute amazing fanfare we've all heard, and thought of as the theme from Stanley Kubrick's 1968 film "2001 - A Space Oddyssey," is actually called "Sunrise". It is from a tone poem written by Richard Strauss in 1896, titled "Also Sprach Zarathustra," and was inspired by Friedrich Nietzsche's philosophical treatise of the same name. (Source)
Anyway, it was one of the greatest concert openings I've ever witnessed, and the entire show was one of the best I've been to as well. Here was the entire set-list. (Note the little arrows next to each song.. Those weren't there the last time I visited this page, a few years ago.)
This was the Encore ("Schmedley Wilcox"):

I distinctly remember the little "Rush - Xanadu" tribute in there. DT can cover anyone, almost better then they can play their own stuff. And, I had always thought that "Finally Free" would be a super 2-minute piece to close a show.
That was my 5th DT show. #6 was opening for Iron Maiden in June of 2010, so yeah - I can't wait for #7. Sadly, I've already missed this year's tour.

Aurora From Orbit
This gorgeous view of the aurora (above) was taken from the International Space Station as it crossed over the southern Indian Ocean on September 17, 2011. The sped-up movie spans the time period from 12:22 to 12:45 PM ET.
While aurora are often seen near the poles, this aurora appeared at lower latitudes due to a geomagnetic storm – the insertion of energy into Earth's magnetic environment called the magnetosphere – caused by a coronal mass ejection (CME) from the sun that erupted on September 14, 2011. The storm was a moderate one, rated with what's called a KP index of 6 on a scale that goes from 0 to 9, caused by just a glancing blow from the CME.

Why?

Why is it illegal to park in a handicapped parking space but okay to go to the bathroom in a handicapped stall? -- Jerry Seinfeld

Would somebody please explain to me those signs that say, "No animals allowed except for Seeing Eye Dogs?" Who is that sign for? Is it for the dog, or the blind person? -- Jerry Seinfeld
Here are a few more Seinfeldisms..
