I'm Back

I'm coming back. I just have way too much to say, and no way to say it. You know - other than liking and sharing crap on Facebook.

Posts

I do honestly wonder how in the heck I used to make 25-35 posts per week. I guess it's a combination of several things. I certainly don't surf like I used to. I know I don't spend as much time at the PC as I used to, but I have also cut down on smoking, so this is a good thing. I also didn't have a gaming system for a lot of that time. Now, thanks to my wife at Christmas, I do again! Sp that's gotta be the main reason I smoke less, drink less, and post less.

The moral? Go buy a gaming system! I've saved us money, but I've also shorthanded my fans, and that will change.

Right but seriously I'll be getting back to dedicating more of my time on finding good, new stuff to post. OK thanks, bye.

Back From Vacation Safe & Sound (OC)

Mine..

Hey everyone!

OK so very soon after my fantasy draft last Friday night, the wife and I took a short vacation to the coast. It seemed as if we were attempting to meet hurricane Isaac in Galveston. As it turned out, you would've never known by the weather the last two days down there, that there was a hurricane coming. We had a cool couple days, and made it home with a day or two to spare.

I'll have a few pictures to upload in a few days. Just know that I'm now back to posting at regular pace, and aside from normal fantasy football operations, things will be back to normal here at One For The Road.

Above is a picture I snapped quickly of the back of a truck with my phone. It was only afterward that I realized it was Michael Jordan's head. Must have been a truck carying a gigantic load of Michael Jordan cologne. At least that's what the truck says.

More to come about our little trip. Stay tuned!

Tiger Finally Wins!

Image Source (Photo by Phelan M. Ebenhack, AP)

Just in time for Augusta in a few weeks, Tiger finally manufactured 4 rounds good enough to grab a win - his first in 2½ years - at Bay Hill Club & Lodge in Orlando. He's won Arnold Palmer's Bay Hill event 7 times now, and appears to be back in the fold.

Click here for PGATour.com's complete leaderboard..

And here's the complete story, again courtesy of PGATour.com (with video)..

Note: I'm really not a Tiger Woods fan. For most of his career I've usually cheered for someone to beat him, simply because I was so against all the media attention he always drew. - (25% of the coverage was Tiger Woods, whether he was in the hunt or not, pulling much-needed publicity from weekly winners while he struggled from time-to-time.) - Not to mention his arrogance during every interview he ever gave.

No, no one in a long, long time has done what he has for the game of golf, I surely get that. But while he was dominating for so-o-o long, my "thing" was rooting for someone to step-up and challenge him. Phil, Freddie, Ernie, Vijay, you name him.

This win is huge for the golf world. It shows he's got his mind where it needs to be, and that he's brought his game back from the depths of no man's land. He also appears to have matured in the sense that he acknowledges the fact that he isn't God's gift to the game of golf (nor women), and he seems to have come a long way as a person the last few years.

Now once again I challenge the field: Are you paying attention?

Golf These Days

OK Tiger Woods won a tournament today - for the first time since the 2009 Thanksgiving scandal came out. In the 2 years and a few weeks as he's been "coming back", he dropped from 1st to 52nd in the Official World Rankings, which is actually a short fall relative to most golfers.

That's how far ahead of everyone else he was by the PGA Tour's world rankings statistics!

In almost the same 2-yr period, Fred Couples has turned 50, and dropped from about 25th to 310th, yet NO ONE has won more money on the Champions Tour in that span - than him.

In fact, I'll blow your mind a little more.. In the same timespan:

Fred Couples has won $4,156,334 in 39 events on two different tours (PGA Tour and Champions Tour).

Tiger Woods has won $1,955,003 in 21 events on the PGA Tour.

Freddie's earned $106,573 per event -- Tiger's earned $93,095 per event. Freddie played almost twice as many tourneys, though. And he's the old guy. Freddie's 52. Tiger will be 36 later this month.

I don't really know why I'm comparing these two, but then again I do.

This is incredibly huge for Tiger Woods. A lot of people doubted he could ever get back to this place again - including myself. It was a long 2 years. Once he went a few majors and a few more tourneys, when he wasn't back, we all knew he'd be back eventually.

Actually we didn't.

But then again - is he all the way back? Here's a super little Woods/Nicklaus comparison.

The Masters - four months from now - is gonna be incredible! The golf world in general is about to become important again..

He's Back!

After going more than two years and 26 tournaments without a win, and after so much turmoil in his personal life and with his golf game, Tiger Woods stood over a 6-foot birdie putt Sunday to win the Chevron World Challenge and felt as though nothing had changed.

Finally, the outcome was familiar, too.

Woods poured in the putt to cap off a birdie-birdie finish at Sherwood, close with a 3-under 69 and beat former Masters champion Zach Johnson by one shot. The win ended a drought that lasted 749 days, and might have signaled a change that Woods is on his way back. (Source)

"Any different?'' Woods repeated when the question came about how it compares to his other victories -- which total 14 majors, 71 PGA Tour titles and 83 worldwide wins. "It feels great. … I know it's been a while, but also for some reason, it feels like it hasn't.

"When I was coming down the stretch there, I felt so comfortable. I felt comfortable in Oz [Australia]. I felt comfortable in Augusta. When I'm putting myself in those positions, it is comfortable.''

Woods was referring to his only other close calls this year: a tie for fourth at the Masters, where he was tied for the lead on the back nine on Sunday; and the Australian Open three weeks ago, where he held the second-round lead, coughed it up with a third-round 75, then rallied to finish third, two strokes out of a playoff. Ten Intriguing Storylines Now That Football Is Back

First of all, take 3 seconds, and in the name of NFL Football, : Click Here!

Now that the lockout is over and training camps are set to begin, we can officially talk about some of the questions that all fans are asking. Here’s a look at some of the top storylines heading into the 2011 NFL season:

Will the Packers suffer a Super Bowl hangover?
The Packers are built to have an extended run as title contenders. The team has one of the deepest and most talented rosters in the league. Their surplus of talent allowed them to overcome losing 15 players to injured reserve on their way toward winning Super Bowl XLV. The return of those players is one of the reasons the Packers are poised to make another run.

The spate of injuries allowed several young players - James Starks, Sam Shields and Desmond Bishop - to get on the field, and their surprising emergence only fortifies the Packers' roster. The team will benefit from the return of Jermichael Finley, Morgan Burnett, Ryan Grant, and Nick Barnett. If Mike McCarthy can keep his team motivated to handle the challenges of taking everyone's best shot, then there is no reason the Packers shouldn't repeat as world champions. -- Bucky Brooks

Are the Jets contenders or poseurs?
The Jets are legitimate contenders under Rex Ryan. They have advanced to the AFC title game in each of his first two seasons. Led by a hard-hitting defense that matches Ryan's swagger and bravado, the Jets bludgeon opponents with an intensity and toughness that forces them to wilt under pressure. They took a step back statistically, but their dominance returned in big games, especially in the playoffs.

Offensively, the Jets also have the pieces in place. Their running game has ranked among the best in the league, and they have a potent passing game led by an emerging big-game performer in Mark Sanchez. He has shown flashes of being clutch in the postseason, and that will eventually translate into championship success. Ryan is full of bravado and bluster and has assembled a team that has the ability to back up his bodacious claims. -- Bucky Brooks

Ready to be an icon and entertain?
Invoking the name Cam Newton gets a reaction, often strong. I've yet to talk with anyone who is neutral about the Panthers rookie QB and top-overall pick. So how will he do as a rookie?

All rookie QBs in this lockout-affected offseason will struggle. Without minicamps and OTAs and the ability to get coached on a daily basis, it would seem that it's folly to expect any rookie QB (and that includes Jake Locker, Christian Ponder, Blaine Gabbert, and Andy Dalton) to have the type of debut experienced by the likes of Matt Ryan, Sam Bradford, Mark Sanchez, Matthew Stafford, and Josh Freeman. But I do remember that Vince Young had a stellar debut, and he did it using his arm and his legs. Expect Newton to try to follow a similar blueprint, and look for any successes that he has to occur in the second half of the season. -- Charles Davis

Romo: Super Bowl or bust?
Several teams could do worse than Tony Romo at quarterback. Like the Cowboys.

Jon Kitna stepped in admirably after Romo’s collarbone injury, but Romo is the guy - at least in the immediate future - to get Dallas to the Super Bowl. But the grace period is over. His stats are better than adequate. Now it’s time to take the big step. Romo has all the toys he needs, and the line is being re-tooled. The defense that crumpled last season remains a question, but new coordinator Rob Ryan could provide some answers.

Romo’s leadership has come into question, which isn't good on a team that needs a leader. DeMarcus Ware said Romo has stepped up as more of a leader this offseason. We’ll see if that carries over. This might not be a do-or-die season for Romo, but time is running out. -- Steve Wyche

I'm All Messed Up, But I'm Back!

Well we're home from a great vacation, which was brought to an end with a bang!

My brother-in-law and I had a bunch of beer and vodka on what amounted to our last night there. I was on my way out the back door with a couple of vodka drinks at 5am, slipped on the welcome mat on the way out, sprained my ankle and hit the ground 4 feet below on my back right side. (Here's the same steps in a picture from last year.) B-I-L says I hit no other steps on my way down - just the ground.

Anyway the image above is from my wife's camera a few minutes after the fall. She was taking pictures of us through windows and laughing, believe it or not (I can). You can see the two little red plastic cups lying there too.

I went right to bed, and woke up a few hours later in major pain, so I went to the ER. Long story short, I've since flown home (as is always the case - had to walk from one side of Dulles airport to the other for our connecting flight.. on a bad ankle.. not fun), been to another ER, and to a urologist - In addition to the bad ankle sprain, I also have a burst adrenal gland, and many bruised ribs.

So I'm on a hydrocodone diet for a few days, and I will be resuming posts shortly. Today is the first day where my pain level has dropped to something that's at least manageable. And yeah it's my insides, not my ankle. I'm shocked that 15 x-rays found no broken ribs.

Here's my ankle a few minutes ago (almost 60 hours after the fall):
