Il Silenzio - Featuring Melissa Venema, Age 13

Conductor/composer Andre Rieu showcases Il Silenzio (1965 by Nini Rosso and Guglielmo Brezza), with trumpet solo by 13 year old Melissa Venema. The majority of us never get the pleasure to hear the full 5+ minute version of this piece. However, you are probably familiar with the beginning, as an abbreviation is played at funeral services. An incredibly peaceful 5 minutes!

17 Cool Hidden Safes

Most of us have a few valuables around the house which we wish to keep safe, surely we can put them in the traditional safe that's hidden in a closet or still better to put them in the bank. But if you are hiding your precious things in the drawers or other obvious places, then perhaps you should consider these hidden safes. Hidden Safes or Diversion safes are regular looking objects that have hidden compartments inside. Though we aren't so sure how far are these Hidden Safes 'safe'; perhaps only until they are discovered!

Wall Socket Safe: This built in wall socket safe supplied and installed by 00 Security.

Water Bottle Safe: This is an actual water bottle, the base of the bottle when rotated counter clockwise and pulled apart, a hidden area that measures 2 1/2" by 2 1/2" will be revealed. To make it look realistic the bottom portion of the bottle below the label comes filled with water and the hidden area is behind the label.

The Evolution Of The Budweiser Label

Simply an amazing read!

1876 - Bud's first label

"Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy." -- Benjamin Franklin

We take our beer seriously here in the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave. Not only is our society a melting pot of cultures from every corner of the Earth, we're a melting pot of beers, too. Those aforementioned cultures brought their beer-making expertise and technology to the New World, and bequeathed it to their posterity. The British and Irish, the French and Spaniards, the German and Austrians, the Belgian and Dutch, the Asians and Africans -- they all contributed to the variety that is American beer today. We've even stolen a few ideas from the ancient Sumerians.

Debunking 5 (Un)employment Myths

Finding a job is one thing. Putting our gifts to work and creating security is another. Which are you really looking to do?

Unemployment can present many confusing dilemmas. During this stressful time, we can lose a sense of the beliefs and values that are important to us. Our fast and furious search for income can lead us onto paths that may not be best for us.

Understanding some of the myths of (un)employment can help one improve their chances of success.

Myth #1- The greater your qualifications, the better.

Reality: There are a large number of unemployed people in the US. Add to that the number of unhappily employed that are also seeking a new position. Job security is an issue for everyone. The last thing an insecure hiring manager would want to do is bring on someone that could someday assume their own duties. They would rather hire someone who they do not perceive to be a threat to their own job security. Have you ever been told you are “overqualified"? Maybe this is what they really meant.

Strategy: Tone down your resume and your presentation. It’s unfortunate, but sometimes knowing too much can actually work against you. Convey your skills as carefully as you can in writing and in person.

Send Your Name To Mars!

All you have to do is fill out this form, and NASA will supposedly send your name to Mars.

Scheduled to launch in the fall of 2011, Mars Science Laboratory is part of NASA's Mars Exploration Program, a long-term effort of robotic exploration of the red planet. Mars Science Laboratory is a rover that will assess whether Mars ever was, or is still today, an environment able to support microbial life. In other words, its mission is to determine the planet's "habitability."

Here's the story. I can't find any confirmation beyond this site. But hey.. it doesn't ask for anything other than your name and zip code!!

15 Tips To Avoid Nagging

It turns out that being a nag is just as unpleasant as being nagged -- so figuring out how to end nagging brings a real happiness boost to a relationship.

But even though no one enjoys an atmosphere of nagging, in marriage, or any partnership, chores are a huge source of conflict. How do you get your sweetheart to hold up his or her end, without nagging?

One of my best friends from college has a very radical solution: she and her husband don’t assign. That’s right. They never say, “Get me a diaper,” “The trash needs to go out,” etc. This only works because neither one of them is a slacker, but still — what a tactic! And they have three children!

That's something to strive for. But even if we can’t reach that point, most of us could cut back on the nagging. Here are some strategies that have worked for me:

1. It’s annoying to hear a hectoring voice, so suggest tasks without words. When my husband needs a prescription filled, he puts his empty medicine bottle on the bathroom counter. Then I know to get it re-filled.

2. If you need to voice a reminder, limit yourself to one word. Instead of barking out, “Now remember, I’ve told you a dozen times, stop off at the grocery store, we need milk, if you forget, you’re going right back out!” Instead, I call out, “Grocery store!” or “Milk!”

3. Don’t insist that a task be done on your schedule. “You’ve got to trim those hedges today!” Says who? Try, “When are you planning to trim the hedges?” If possible, show why something needs to be done by a certain time. “Will you be able to trim the hedges before our party next week?”
