I like this new progressive hard rock/metal band. Dare I say they're very Dream theater -ish, but with slightly better vocals. I'm sorry for always trashing on James LaBrie, but hey.. it is what it is. His vocal chords are not aging well. Also the vocals are mixed a little bit too loud over everything else. Otherwise, this band is tremendous!

Probably my all-time favorite Pantera tune. I used to crank on this song as I entered Kyle Seale Parkway on the way to Cedar Creek Golf Course in San Antonio. I know Rick Trevino knows the feeling of driving to Cedar Creek. It's a special place.

It's weird how things connect with other things, but Cedar Creek was my favorite course for a long, long time. I love music, and will always be listening to something good whenever I'm in the car. I usually make it a point to put on something great before a golf round, and I'm Broken & Cedar Creek just stuck together many times.

Not really a huge fan of Slayer, but I love this song. Oddly enough I think Beavis & Butthead did too. I remember that's where I first heard it.

It has come to my attention via Dream Theater's Facebook page, that they have been nominated for a Grammy award for their latest amazing release, A Dramatic Turn of Events. More specifically for the masterpiece "On the Backs of Angels". (Video Source)

Apparently I'm a little late with this news, but for some reason, DT didn't announce this on their Facebook page until now. If they did, I missed it. There's an article at their website about this nomination dated Dec. 13, 2011! Ugh!

Anyway, also nominated for the Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance category along with Dream Theater are Megadeth, Foo Fighters, Mastodon, and Sum 41.

Foo Fighters have already won SIX Grammy's. This I didn't know until right now. They write some seriously great music, but wow. All the more reason to give the nod to DT this time around. I like Dave Mustaine and Megadeth, but haven't they produced about 73 albums, now?

One final thought: This really, really sucks for Mike Portnoy! I love the guy and all his work, but this has to seem like an unnecessary kick to the face while he's already down. Geeez! They should seriously invite him, too, to the ceremony..

Although the hard-rock and metal history books include more than a few eye-popping collaborations over the genres’ four-decade histories, 2011 boasts some of the most exciting. Below is a list of what got the Revolver editors’ jaws dropping this year.

The Big Four
Although Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax jammed together for the first time last year, it was in 2011 they made it their calling card. Beginning with their performance of Diamond Head’s “Am I Evil?” in April to their jams in Europe (which also featured members of Diamond Head, Exodus, and Sepultura), to their U.S. final performance of Motörhead’s “Overkill” in New York City, these bands have made history at each performance.
