Jodi Arias Live Trial Coverage

Jodi Arias with her victim, Travis Alexander (Image Source, and Via)

I don't know if any of you are following this trial, but it's getting into the seriously important stages. Click the image above to go to the live coverage page. Jodi, herself, has been on the stand for days, but tomorrow and the rest of this week should focus on the day of the murder itself. So far she's been narrating just about every detail of her life for the couple years leading up to June 4, 2008. I'm not into this case anywhere near as much as I was with Casey Anthony's, so I have still have no idea why it took 5 years for this to go to trial.

Anyway, here is another live coverage link if the one above isn't working.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
UPDATE: There was no court on Thursday, as the judge was ill. For some reason there is also no court on Fridays for this case (not official for Fridays past today). Monday is a holiday, so no court Monday. So this will all resume again on Tuesday.
12 Facts About Guns & Mass Shootings in the United States
~ a super Washington Post/Wonkblog article by Ezra Klein
Image Source
When we first collected much of this data, it was after the Aurora, Colo. shootings, and the air was thick with calls to avoid “politicizing” the tragedy. That is code, essentially, for “don’t talk about reforming our gun control laws.”
Let’s be clear: That is a form of politicization. When political actors construct a political argument that threatens political consequences if other political actors pursue a certain political outcome, that is, almost by definition, a politicization of the issue. It’s just a form of politicization favoring those who prefer the status quo to stricter gun control laws.
Since then, there have been more horrible, high-profile shootings. Jovan Belcher, a linebacker for the Kansas City Chiefs, took his girlfriend’s life and then his own. In Oregon, Jacob Tyler Roberts entered a mall holding a semi-automatic rifle and yelling “I am the shooter.” And, in Connecticut, at least 27 are dead — including 18 children — after a man opened fire at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
If roads were collapsing all across the United States, killing dozens of drivers, we would surely see that as a moment to talk about what we could do to keep roads from collapsing. If terrorists were detonating bombs in port after port, you can be sure Congress would be working to upgrade the nation’s security measures. If a plague was ripping through communities, public-health officials would be working feverishly to contain it.
Only with gun violence do we respond to repeated tragedies by saying that mourning is acceptable but discussing how to prevent more tragedies is not. “Too soon,” howl supporters of loose gun laws. But as others have observed, talking about how to stop mass shootings in the aftermath of a string of mass shootings isn’t “too soon.” It’s much too late.
What follows here isn’t a policy agenda. It’s simply a set of facts — many of which complicate a search for easy answers — that should inform the discussion that we desperately need to have.
1. Shooting sprees are not rare in the United States.
Mother Jones has tracked and mapped every shooting spree in the last three decades. “Since 1982, there have been at least 61 mass murders carried out with firearms across the country, with the killings unfolding in 30 states from Massachusetts to Hawaii,” they found.
Probably the Image that will Stick With Me
Via / Image Source
This is the picture from the Aurora, CO movie theater massacre that is SO incredible to me. The similarity of blood spatter in NINE separate, but consecutive, footprints. Twenty-two separate pieces of evidence. The glock on the car roof. The imagery/symbolism of the reddish stuff exiting through the A/C run-off drain. And of course the AR15 pointed directly into the site.
If anyone finds an image that includes what is RIGHT of this image, please send it to me!
The Trayvon Martin Case
-- has nothing to do with race.
The sooner all you black protesters realize this - the better.
Image Source
And why is it that it doesn't make national news when tons of people are upset about a white person's seemingly wrongful death? It's because we don't feel it is necessary to collectively come together and publicly RIOT every time a white person is wronged. It is always an issue with race for them whenever one of their own is wronged - in this country.
Image Source
A lot of people are pissed off at the way Kelly Thomas was murdered. But do you see mobs of white people protesting, and causing civil unrest because a handful of police officers beat him to a pulp? No. What you see there is an organized effort to investigate a group of officers who went overboard in their attempts to subdue a non-violent person, resulting in his death.
If you oppose the actions of the officers involved in the Kelly Thomas case, but are also blinded by reverse-racism in support of Trayvon Martin, then maybe you need to rethink exactly what you stand for. Go take some time and think about what it means to protect your own human life. Go take a moment to realize that George Zimmerman didn't want to pull the trigger any more than Kelly Thomas wanted to plead for his life for 15 minutes, while cops beat him to death.
Golfer
Source
A murder has been committed.
Police are called to an apartment and find a man standing, holding a 5-iron in his hands, looking at the lifeless body of a woman on the ground.
The detective asks, "Sir, is that your wife?"
"Yes."
"Did you hit her with that golf club?"
"Yes. Yes, I did," the man, answers.
He stifles a sob, drops the club and puts his hands on his head.
"How many times did you hit her?"
"I don't know. Five...maybe six...
put me down for a five."
Casey Anthony Trial Date Set
Pic Source
Well, mark your calendars. The trial date for the homicide of of young Caylee Anthony has been set: May 2, 2011. Yep, apparently that's correct.. next year. What has a good chance to be the trial of the decade, I thought would begin in just a few months, but for some reason they are putting it off another year.
Having already pled guilty to 13 counts of check fraud, perhaps the defense needs more time. Nevertheless it is known that there is a lot of evidence the prosecution has yet to reveal to the public. Now that Casey Anthony is a felon, perhaps things change. Why not conduct the murder trial first? If she's found guilty, which I expect, that entire check fraud crap is moot, is it not? Think about it: "Death by lethal injection (or life in prison) for murder, plus an additional 13 months for check fraud." WTF?
Click the banner pic for the link, and you can go here for a lot more about this case.
