The Perfect Drive
Two men were playing golf one afternoon. They were about to wrap up a fun round, and were about to tee off at the par-5 18th hole. The first man hit his drive straight down the fairway without hesitation. The second man had more trouble with his effort. He kept checking his alignment, backing off, rechecking, and backing off.
After 5 minutes off this, his friend asked what the problem was..

The man on the tee said that his wife was watching from the observation deck just behind the 18th green, and that he wanted to hit the perfect shot.
The man watching said, "You're wasting your time buddy, there is no way you can possibly hit her from here."

Update To A Prior Post
Since I posted this image at the left a few days ago - a shard of wood apparently through a concrete curbing, resulting from the devastating tornado that went through Joplin, MO on May 22 - several different people have pointed out to me, either directly or indirectly, that perhaps there was actually a PVC drain hole in the curb that the wood went through.I'm still unsure after looking at the pictures, but only because I don't think I've ever seen such a creature - in real life, I mean. But then again, we don't get a ton of rain here, and when we do, we have all sorts of flooding problems, which drain-holes in curbs would PROBABLY alleviate!!
So if you find one other than the one below, send it to me, I'd like to see it.
Anyway the following pictures further explain what I'm talking about (click all to enlarge):
(Source)
(Source)This is certainly just as possible if not more probable than the belief that wood could pierce concrete, although I'm sure it can... right? I don't know, but glad I had a comment on my original post in the first place, because it led me to this terrific post from one of the best places to go for stunning images of what's going on in the world - The Big Picture at Boston Dot Com.
Anyway, here are a few images I've found thanks to doing this update. Neither are concrete, but both are incredible... and guess where both were taken? That would also be Joplin, MO, 5/23/2011 (gulp!):

An Impressive Fallstreak

Via
This fallstreak hole - probably the result of a weather phenomenon called virga - is rare, yet very beautiful. Oddly enough each of their respective Wikipedia entries, which I just linked you to, says nothing at all about the other! Although according to this page I found, they are essentially very related.
Nevertheless, here is a video of a news report about one occurrence outside Sacramento, CA.

Signature Hole #12 - La Cantera Resort, San Antonio
Par:4 - 415 yards

Click pics to get better views..
This hole is absolutely amazing. You must keep your tee shot between a rock wall and several church pew-like bunkers on one side, and a steep fall-off into rocks, weeds, rattlesnakes and, well... not a good place to be on the right. The view into the green is one of the prettiest I've ever seen. And OMG that green - It's about 5 feet from front to back and a half-a-mile wide. OK, that's an exaggeration. Probably closer to 8 yards deep by 40 yards wide. Needless to say it takes a very precise middle iron to avoid all kinds of trouble.

Hole #7 Tee - La Cantera Resort, San Antonio
Par:4 - 310 yards

Played the resort course at La Cantera for about the 5th-6th time yesterday with my good friend Rick. I always try to take a bunch of pictures, since the place is just heaven on earth. I also went to every Texas Open from 1995 to 2003, but for some reason haven't gone back for the tournament since that year. It was during that 2003 tournament that I proposed to my wife at hole #16. This year was the first year they moved the tournament away from La Cantera, over to the new TPC of San Antonio.
Yesterday was, however, the first time I've played it since I've had this blog, so I'll post a few of the best ones I have. If you're ever in San Antonio, and you have only one chance to play some golf - you must go here.
This picture is the panoramic views from the 7th tee, which stands about 100 feet above the fairway below. Six Flags Fiesta Texas theme park is in the background, most notably "The Rattler" roller coaster is one of the better wooden coasters I've ridden. This hole is also named The Rattler. The green is driveable for the longest hitters, but as you can see there are easier ways to get your par.

Every Time
ViaThis has been on my mind recently, as I'm looking for a tool to punch a hole in one of the newest belts I own. The last one fit great but it's about to break. Anyway, why is this picture SO true??

The Most Extreme Golf Hole Ever

The hole is based at the Legends Golf and Safari Resort, within the Entabeni Safari Conservancy in South Africa's north-eastern Limpopo Province. A round of golf - including the 19th hole and lunch - will set you back € 615. Harrington said: "This is the type of innovation and excitement we need to get more people playing golf.
Forget pitch and putt - this tee-off point on top of a 430 m (1290 ft.) mountain in South Africa is the hardest golf shot in the world, and more than $US1 million awaits the player who can score a hole in one.
