Here's the original, in case you wanted to compare. Yes, it's actually a Black Sabbath song, but while Ronnie James Dio was their singer. It was on their first album release with Dio as front man - in 1980, and he wrote the lyrics, although they're usually credited to Sabbath as a band.

For the first time I can recall since about September 11, 2001, I have been glued to the news regarding the Aurora, Co. movie theater incident.

I've flipped among HLN, CNN, MSNBC, and even FoxNews for almost two straight days now. While these networks have done a decent job in their reporting of the events as they occur (some better than others), their journalism skills are in great need of improvement.

FoxNews was actually very good with today's coverage of the investigation of Holmes's apartment. I don't normally watch FoxNews. Nope, never. CNN and HLN were both doing well at first until they both dropped the ball, and started rebroadcasting loops of CNN's Anderson Cooper's and Piers Morgan's interviews.. and HLN's Jane Valez-Mitchell & Vinnie Politan seemed to speculate for hours while independent media outlets were coming up with new updates by the minute!

Reddit user integ3r has provided to the public (along with hefty assistance from nilicule, shankee, quantumraiders, and dozens of other contributors), the most detailed report of the events -as they happened- as I've ever seen.. for any event, ever. These guys deserve some SERIOUS credit for the unprecedented realistic & thorough journalism work they've put in. (integ3r has already been given tons of credit across the Internets, but that's just the tip of the iceberg.)

The LIVE feed from 9NEWS out of Denver has been top-notch, and I have chosen to watch it over any of the main national media outlets. It is however not online 24/7. Nothing against them - they can only do so much, and what they have done has been incredible!

I have taken the time to post this because as a quasi-journalist myself, I am SICK of the national media, and their lame reporting of extremely important news. I remember how things were during the 9/11 attacks, but I was just beginning to see it then. They did the same thing during the Casey Anthony trial, and they do the same thing whenever there is a major celebrity death.

Something I saw on CNN today: "We are trying very hard to focus only on the victims in this case, and not the individual who chose to take the lives of these victims, blah blah blah.." Not a quote, it's my paraphrased statement. Five seconds later the station posts a picture of James Holmes, and the voice being heard says something of the like: "Who is this James Holmes? We'll be right back with more information about his background, his possible motives, and more details we've just discovered." Again, not a direct quote.

This is my point. Besides the fact that every 2 minutes someone is injecting their own speculation as to "why this, or why that." And it's not only that. The national media is a complete failure because of their inadequacy on the job. Mispronouncing names.. blatantly getting stuff wrong.. FoxNews is still to this minute saying there were 71 victims! "Why would he join a sex site?" is another gem I heard. Why would anyone join a sex site?

RIP Ronnie James Dio

Wow, it hasn't even been a month since we lost Peter Steele, and now this. Rock 'n' Roll has lost another legend. May he not be the last in line.

Ronnie James Dio, a singer with the bands Rainbow, Black Sabbath and Dio, whose powerful, semioperatic vocal style and attachment to demonic imagery made him one of the best-loved figures in classic heavy metal, died on Sunday morning, according to an announcement on his Web site by his wife, Wendy. He was 67.

No cause was given in the announcement, but Mr. Dio had been suffering from stomach cancer, and recently his band Heaven and Hell canceled its summer tour because of his health. The Houston Chronicle reported that Mr. Dio was being treated at a hospital in Houston.

Mr. Dio was born Ronald James Padavona in Portsmouth, N.H., and grew up in Cortland, N.Y. He began his career in rockabilly bands in the late 1950s, but by the mid-1970s, when Ritchie Blackmore, the guitarist of the British band Deep Purple, hired him to sing for his new band, Rainbow, Mr. Dio had become a heavy-metal purist, and he became known as much for his vocal prowess as for his Mephistophelean stage persona. He is widely credited with popularizing the “devil horn” hand gesture (see video clip at the end) — index and pinky fingers up, everything else clenched in a fist — as a symbol of metal’s occult-like worship of everything scary and heavy.

Mr. Dio sang about devils, defiance and the glory of rock ‘n’ roll with a strong, mean voice, punctuating his points with gale-force vibrato, a style derived in part from singers like Deep Purple’s Ian Gillan. When Ozzy Osborne was fired from Black Sabbath in 1979, Mr. Dio replaced him, and by 1983 he released the album “Holy Diver” with his own band, Dio. In various lineup configurations, the band Dio continued to release material in the mid-2000s.

In 2006 he began playing with some of his former band mates in Black Sabbath, naming the group Heaven and Hell after the title of the first Black Sabbath album on which Mr. Dio appeared. Heaven and Hell released one album, “The Devil You Know,” in 2009.

Other than his wife, no information about his survivors was immediately available on Sunday afternoon.

Survivor Update

It was simply one of the best ever Survivor episodes in my opinion. I'm not planning on a weekly Survivor update or anything, but I had to make this post for one primary reason. OK, maybe three..

1. I watched it much later at the CBS site as is very common, and is what I tend to do when I miss it.

2. We'll now have a 2-week break from Survivor while the NCAA does its dance.

3. There were finally some very candid shots of Amanda Kimmel. If you've tried to do Google Image Searches for pictures of her, you already know there aren't many out there - until now! I was able to provide everyone with some great screenshots of such an awesome episode:






There were two incredible challenges. One was a basketball/football/rugby mix that you'd just have to see to understand it, but just know it might have been the best challenge ever which was NOT an immunity challenge, if not the best challenge overall. The immunity challenge involved blindfolded players and one member guiding them to collect pieces of a puzzle, which they'd later have to collectively put together. Both James and Jerri did great jobs directing their teams, but the Villains won both! They got a chocolate feast for the 1st, and of course, immunity for the second.











JT made a strong decision, and helped vote out Tom for the Heroes. Russell found the hidden immunity idol, but was the only one of the villains to look for it, so they're out to get him for doing so. JT is now in control of the game for the heroes.

Speed skating short track is so much more impressive than the distance skating. Even the longest distances on the short track are exciting. The jump at the gun is such an adrenaline-filled philosophical event - in 5 seconds.

Apollo Ohno just had an incredible race. But every race is a good race - and they're going at it 4 on 4. Lanes? Ehh...



The Cavs got Antawn Jamison from Washington. Serious help not named Stoudemire for King LBJ. Caron Butler was sent to Dallas, too. With Gilbert Arenas in at least a years-worth of serious legal trouble ahead of him, the Washington Wizards are now officially in rebuilding mode. Overstatement of the year, and it's only mid-February.

Dallas will continue to push the top teams in the West. Cleveland will continue on their way to a certain series for the finals. It won't be as easy as they think, though.




Pay attention Friday at 10am Central time. Tiger's gonna "break his silence".

That's in quotes because it's going to be so different than everyone expects. The media's claiming "select media" and "no questions allowed". Are you kidding me? Tiger can do nothing better for himself now than to make himself available to whoever wants to be present, and for whatever questions may exist. A limit? Of course... reasonable, like an hour.

Surely by now being the person that he is, he will have gone over this in his head a thousand times, and should be overly prepared. If he implies in any way that he still "owns" that aura he had before in his interviews, he's sadly mistaken.

My streak is at 11 right now..
