Dunking

Dear NBA,

Do away with the dunk contest.

If you insist on having a dunk contest, then may I suggest the following:
(1) Bring some superstars to the table.
(2) No props.
(3) One person.
(4) One basketball.
(5) One chance.

OK maybe a second try, but after that.. THAT'S IT! You get a zero.

Thank you.

Allow me to remind you of this, as I end this rant.

Dream Theater Instagram Photo Contest Entry (OC)

This is a composite image I submitted to Dream Theater's #DramaticEvents photo contest.. My ticket superimposed over my view from my seat. They were very strict on camera usage & picture taking at this venue. I only took about 7 pictures with my phone, so I didn't have a lot to work with.

Click on the image not only to enlarge it   (because it's tough to see in the small version), but to go give me a "LIKE"! ...I appreciated more than you know!!

Vote For Miss Survivor

All you Survivor enthusiasts, this is certainly for you. If you're a fan of Survivor, and have watched all the seasons (or most of them), then this should be no trouble for you - especially for you men out there. But I know Survivor has tons of women fans.

It's pretty easy.. All you have to do is go to the site, take 20 seconds to read the rules, and then write-in your top-5 Survivor women of all-time.

Or you can click the banner image..

I wanted to be thorough, so I found a place where I could quickly revisit the one's whose names I couldn't remember. So here is a Wikipedia link to help you out in that manner. Google-searching their names will bring up images, and almost instantly refresh your memory.

Myself.. I had to make a chicken-scratched short list of (GULP) 29 of them.. ordered by how I figured they'd end up ranked on my list. I was pretty surprised how difficult it was to pick only FIVE.

Here are mine:
1 - Stephenie LaGrossa
2 - Amanda Kimmel
3 - Jenna Morasca
4 - Natalie Tenerelli
5 - Jessica 'Sugar' Kiper

And I made it a point to include my next five in the comments, although I doubt they'll be considered: Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Natalie White, Christa Hastie, Jenna Lewis, and Ashley Trainer.

Have fun with it, but go vote!

Thanks to Sugar's Facebook for reminding me!

NBA Dunk Contest Rant

Via

Is anyone else getting tired of these dunk contest participants having multiple tries to complete borderline asinine dunks? Get rid of the 2:00 clock. Give them 1 chance. You don't make it - too bad! OK maybe give them two tries.

What peeves me about this year's, which is almost over as we speak, is not only did several contestants take the whole two minutes, but McGee actually received a 50 for the two-basket dunk on about his 6th try!

And the props are getting ridiculous. Take a look at the highlights, and watch DeMar DeRozan's second dunk of the first-round dunk a few minutes ago. I think it scored a 50, and it was worth every point. Simple, sweet, complex, first try...

And Blake Griffin's in-game throw-down dunk from above the rim was better than all these in this contest.

UPDATE: I found a highlight video, and have posted it below. DeMar DeRozan's 2nd dunk, which received a 50, begins at 1:19. Notice he never touches the ball with his left hand at all.

The World's Funniest Signs

A Yahoo! Travel & Leisure article by Joshua Pramis.

We asked T+L members to submit their funniest signs for our photo contest — here are the best of the bunch.

Snapping pictures of funny signs seen while traveling is a favorite pastime for many travelers. We’ve all come across these gems: a miswritten translation; an unusual warning; or an illustration that just doesn’t seem right. It might be an official highway sign or something written on a shop awning. All are perfect for adding to your travel photo portfolio and sharing with friends. And oftentimes, photographic evidence of such a sign not only makes for a great souvenir, but also serves as proof for doubtful folks back home. (Click images to enlarge!)

Don’t Drive Your Car off a Cliff!

It seems that this is a real possibility around Ireland’s Dingle Peninsula. After all, authorities put up a warning sign, picturing a car flying headfirst into the sea. And that sign, juxtaposed against an actual cliff in the background, makes for a great travel photo. Fortunately, a T+L member took a picture of it and submitted it to our Funny Signs photo contest.

Some of these signs aren’t just funny, but absurd — like one next to the water in Mystic, CT, saying that throwing rocks will cost you 50 cents each. What’s funnier? That they charge for throwing rocks? Or that they trust you to ’fess up?

Other signs are just plain confusing. We’re all familiar with building maps — like at a large mall, for example — with a big star pointing out where exactly you are. But imagine seeing one — as one of our members did in Beijing — with a bunch of points all over the map, each clearly labeled: “You are here.”

Confusing? Yep. And while this useless map was probably a cause of frustration at the time, it becomes a priceless souvenir when it’s added to the digital photo album.

Here are a few more:

And you can see the rest of them here..

By the way, they're leaving it up to us to decide who the winner will be, so go vote!
