Subscriber Fees List Shows What You Pay For Cable Channels
After the spat between Cablevision and Disney invaded the Oscar telecast last Sunday, the fees channels charge cable companies (who then pass them along to you) have come into the spotlight. All Things Digital posted a list from industry analyst SNL Kagan that shows the wholesale prices each channel charges cable companies for their product.
The list is making the rounds as fodder for a la carte cable activists. It makes it very apparent how much of your bill goes to sports programming -- which tends to irritate people who hate sports. Alternatively, you can study the list and count how many stupid makeover shows you are unwillingly paying for.
Keep in mind these are wholesale prices, cable companies obviously mark-up the prices, profit, etc. Meanwhile, it seems that the whole ABC/Cablevision was just a dress rehearsal for the real showdown: Time Warner Cable vs. ABC. Look for that to get crazy in August as TWC's deal expires.

Going Where The Fringe Isn't Extreme
I case you weren't aware, Andrew Zimmern, host of Travel Channel's "Bizarre Foods" has a new show out. It's called "Andrew Zimmern's Bizarre World". The new show is much like the older one, but even better. Before, one might've wondered why he would wrestle with locals from another country, or bother to show a lot of the adventures he's been taken on during a program about primarily over-the-top foods of different parts of the world.. But not anymore.
“I’ve never been a mainstream kind of guy,” Andrew Zimmern asserts in his new show, “Andrew Zimmern’s Bizarre World,” beginning on Tuesday night on the Travel Channel. “I’m into exploring the fringes of a culture.”
So what does he explore in Cuba, the subject of his first episode? Cigars, old American cars, boxing and baseball, rumba and salsa, a May Day parade, and Frank Sinatra and Ava Gardner’s honeymoon suite at the Hotel Nacional. If this is the fringe, then “The Godfather: Part II” was science fiction. Click on Andrew to continue..
Bonus - Four Sneak Peeks from the new show: 1, 2, 3, 4
