Snow?

Weathermen here say the next 24 hours could provide snowfall. Gonna wait and see.. Seguin hasn't had considerable snowfall since 1985. Yeah we've had flakes a couple times, but hey.. I mean snow.

I'll be back with pictures.

Or maybe not!

When Ex-Lovers Take Revenge

A really good one from Oddee!

The woman who decided to sell all of her ex's crappy stuff

Not a garage sale or sign you see every day, if ever. Gives whole new meaning to the July 4th term, "Independence Day." This angry woman decided to sell all of her ex's “crap”.

The cheated husband who auctioned his wife on Ebay

A husband in the UK has perhaps found a new use for eBay — auctioning off his allegedly adulterous wife. He put up a listing offering his “cheating, lying, adulterous slag of a wife” to the highest bidder. The link to the wife auction zoomed around the web. The wife on sale denied any affair and cops investigated Paul for harassment. Bids hitted £500,100.

Allen Iverson: Back In Philly

The 76ers officially welcomed back guard Allen Iverson during a Thursday afternoon press conference.

Surprisingly, it took just five minutes for A.I.'s eyes to well-up with tears as he tried to talk about his career's progressions and how happy he was to be back in Philadelphia.

10 Tips To Prevent Impulsive Buying

Impulse Buying is one of the leading causes of death for the American bank account and pocketbook. Impulse buying is simply defined as making an unplanned purchase. This can be an extra pack of cookies when grocery shopping or buying a car on a whim. Most of us are guilty of this at one time or another. Even though the term is simple, it probably accounts for the majority of money problems people have. Here are 10 tips to prevent this dreaded wallet sucker:

1. Understand wants versus needs. If your shoes are falling apart and held together with duct tape, you NEED new shoes. If you have 12 pairs of new shoes still in the box in your closet, you don’t NEED new shoes, you WANT new shoes. Ask yourself this question before making a purchase, “Do I really need this?”

2. Avoid stores or store departments where you may lose control. If shoes are your weakness, stay away from shoe stores. If you compulsively buy CDs and DVDs, stay out of that section at WalMart.

3. Pay cash for all of your purchases. It is much harder to hand over cash than to swipe a credit card. Once the cash is gone, it is gone.

10 Web Design Rules That You Can Break

As web design and design in general have evolved, rules have been established to ensure consistent and usable designs. Some of these rules were created simply because website creators abused certain principles without regard for their users. But these rules are not enforced by anyone and should be broken when necessary, especially when breaking them would lead to a stunning design. In this article, we present 10 rules that you can break if it suits your design needs.

Rule #1: Do Not Display the Horizontal Scroll Bar
A significant number of mice don’t have a horizontal mouse wheel. This makes it awkward to scroll left or right when a web page’s content extends past the sides of the browser.

It can be annoying to have to bring the mouse cursor down to the bottom of the window and drag the scroll bar over just to see a word or two that lies beyond the viewable area of the page. That said, here are some well-designed sites that put the scroll bar to work in effective ways.

Shoe Guru
Shoe Guru gets away with horizontal scrolling because it takes advantage of the way people look at shoes. People look at most products from top to bottom, but shoes are different. People’s eyes usually move across the length of the shoe. Using this habit to its advantage, Shoe Guru makes its website’s design flow in the same direction, making the motion feel natural.

Rule #2: Use a Minimal Number of Font Faces
Too many fonts usually conflict with each other and overwhelm the viewer. Each font has a personality, and too many personalities can create disorder.

To effectively use more than just a couple of fonts, a design has to be very text-oriented, and the rest of the design needs to be relatively quiet. Here are some examples of sites that use this sense of conflict and disorder to engage the user.

Rule #3: Do Not Use Too Many Colors
The fear of going too far with a design is what separates professionals from rookies and rookies from the oblivious. The oblivious try to make their designs as extreme as possible, with words on fire, blinking text, and as many colors as possible.

Rookies want to keep their designs subtle and easy on the eye, but in the end their designs can sometimes look lifeless. The following eye-pleasing designs are by some true professionals who are pushing boundaries.

Travic Isaacs
Travis Isaacs’s design has a colorful vertical gradient in the background that makes the design seem colorful throughout. This website has bright pink as its link color, which is a great choice for designers who want to create a colorful effect.

The Weirdest Clouds You'll Ever See

Nature has always been a source of inspiration for designers to look at things differently.

We all know that a tree doesn’t always have green leaves, water is not blue and clouds are certainly not always white and puffy. As designers, we need to know to look beyond the obvious when looking at things.

Cloud formations such as mammatus or lenticular among others, are perfect examples of how intricate and different nature can be. There are even so called ‘ufo clouds’, which truly resemble the shape of a UFO.

In this post, we take a look at some amazing photographs of the weirdest cloud formations that you’ll ever see, that are destined to inspire your design work and surely blow your mind.

To read more information about any of the photos, just click on any of the images below to be taken to its source. And don’t forget the next time you go out, to look up…

12 Ways to Manage Anxiety

If your mind were a diesel engine, anxiety would be the leaded gas that was accidentally poured in and responsible for all the burps and stutters. Even more so than depression, I think, anxiety is the big disabler in my life, with a capital D, which is why I try to nip it in its early symptoms. That doesn't always happen, of course, but here are some techniques I try.

Recognize the Reptilian Brain

My therapist friend Elvira Aletta gives a brilliant neuro-psychology lesson in one of her posts where she explains the two parts of our brain: the primitive part containing the amygdala--which is responsible for generating and processing our fear and other primal emotions--and our frontal lobes: the neo-cortex or the newest part of our brain, which is sophisticated, educated, and is able to apply a bit of logic to the message of raw fear that our reptilian brain generates.

Why is this helpful? When I feel that knot in my stomach that comes with a message that I am unloved by the world, I try to envision a Harvard professor, or some intellectual creature whacking a reptile on the head with a book, saying something like "Would you please just evolve, you overly dramatic creature?"

Exaggerate Your Greatest Fear

I know this doesn't seem like a good idea, but truly it works. I learned it from a fellow Beyond Blue reader who explained on a combox: "Tell your fear to someone else and make sure to be as dramatic as possible, with very descriptive words and emotions. Then, when you've told every detail you can think of, start over again. Tell the entire, dramatic story, again with very elaborate descriptions. By the third or fourth time, it becomes a bit silly."

My friend Mike and I do this all the time. He will tell me how he is afraid he has diabetes, and that his leg will have to be amputated, and then he won't be able to drive a car with one leg, and because of that his wife with leave him, and he will be a single, lonely old man with one leg. Funny stuff, right?

A Visit From Grandma & Grandpa

Grandma and Grandpa were visiting their kids overnight.

When Grandpa found a bottle of Viagra in his son’s medicine-cabinet, he asked about using one of the pills.

The son said : "I don’t think you should take one, Dad. They’re very strong and very expensive."

"How much?" asked Grandpa.

"$10.00 a pill." answered the son.

"I don’t care," said Grandpa,

"I’d still like to try one, and before we leave in the morning, I’ll put the money under the pillow."

Later the next morning, the son found $110.00 under the pillow.

He called Grandpa and said : "Dad, I told you each pill costs $10.00, not $110.00."

"I know," said Grandpa. "The hundred is from Grandma!"

It's Qualifying Time For The PGA Tour

You know what sucks? I just noticed that it's Q-school time for golfers on (or not quite on) the PGA Tour. David Duval had to go back to Q-school to get his card. He had another bad season, but he did finish t-2nd in this year's U.S. Open. Seems like that would be enough for him to keep his card, but apparently not.

David Duval was the last player, besides Vijay Singh, to hold the #1 Official World Golf Ranking several years ago before Tiger Woods' stranglehold on it.

Other notable former tour members who had to go back and endure the 6 to 18 rounds (depending upon their exemptions) in mulitple locations are:

Todd Hamilton *
Joe Ogilvie
Tim Herron
Paul Stankowski
Todd Fischer
Glen Day
Carlos Franco
Jeff Maggert
Chris Riley
Tom Pernice, Jr.
Jesper Parnevik
Omar Uresti
Jonathan Kaye
Mark Hensby
Shaun Micheel *
Dicky Pride
J.P. Hayes
Jason Gore
Robert Damron
Skip Kendall
Marco Dawson
(clicking on each name HERE takes you to each player's page.

Some of these guys have won PGA tournaments. A few have even won a major championship *!

Let's assume there are 10 million golfers in a given set of guys across the world who are very, very good.. Good enough to feel they could compete on tour. The top 1% of them would be 100,000. So, the top 0.01% of them would be 1,000. It just goes to show you that even the guys in the bottom half of these top-1000 golfers struggle on a yearly basis to play with the big boys.

Why Can't I Lose Weight?

Have you ever felt like trying to lose extra pounds or keep them off is just more difficult for you than for other people? Recent research suggests you might not be imagining this. For some people, thanks to a combination of genetics and physiological differences, it really is easier to put on weight and harder to take it off.

Most of these people are women, who have a different genetic blueprint than men. Up until maybe 100 years ago, it was favorable for women to have extra fat stores and efficient metabolisms. This helped to ensure women's survival during times of famine and illness, and women's ability to nourish babies while pregnant and breastfeeding.

"We know for sure it's both genetic and environmental why some people are overweight and obese," says June Stevens, a distinguished professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

The genetic differences that determine a person's tendency to gain weight are less noticeable in environments where exercise is a part of everyday life and where there is NOT an abundance of great-tasting, affordable food. Most Americans, of course, live in the opposite situation. Stevens describes it as an "obesogenic" environment: a set of circumstances that encourages people to eat and drink more calories than they expend, and thus become obese.

The 20 Best Gadgets of the Decade

The new Millennium got off to a great start where the world of gadgetry was concerned. For our 20 best we selected only actual gadgets—no websites like YouTube or Facebook, no software programs and no innovative companies like Netflix. From listening to music to trips to the lavatory, each of these gadgets has made life a little more enjoyable. Congrats to the inventors—now quit dawdling on the video-camera watch and the personal jetpack.

TiVo DVR (1999)

That little black-and-silver box revolutionized the television experience, shifting power to the audience in an unprecedented fashion. No longer do you have to plan your schedule around your favorite shows. Had to work late, caught a ballgame or met friends for a drink instead? You can still watch your Lost (or whatever your jam is) when you get home without having to worry about blank VCR tapes. And, of course, you don’t have to suffer all those obnoxious commercial interruptions. But even beyond the more obvious benefits, TiVo inspires a sense of discovery with its recommendations function, learning your tastes based on what you already like, and helping you find great programming you might otherwise have missed. And though some units did ship in 1999, we certainly consider it an artifact of the 2000s.

Slingbox (2005)

This genius device gives viewers access to their cable television programming anywhere with a computer and high-speed internet connection. While initially hailed as a solution for dorm-dwellers without space for a television, the slingbox has become a favorite of travelers who can’t miss their favorite shows or games just because they’re away from home.

13 Bizarre Jobs

Wouldn’t it be great to be able to hand out business cards that proclaim you a ‘professional sleeper’, or fortune cookie writer? Of course, for every curiously awesome job, there’s a foul, wretched one – like vomit collector at an amusement park or waste-burning toilet attendant on a ship. To get any of these 13 weird gigs, you either have to be really lucky – or really desperate.

Golf Ball Diver

For all the balls they accidentally knock into the water, few golfers wade in and try to retrieve them. That’s what golf ball divers are for. Golf equipment stores selling ‘gently used’ golf balls often pay several independent golf ball divers to gather as many of the errant balls as they can, usually for about 6 cents each. Some estimates put golf ball divers’ salaries at over $100,000 a year, but it can be a dangerous job – a 75-year-old man died while diving for golf balls, 27 years after his son perished the same way.

Professional Sleeper

Many of us sleep on the job – but if we got caught, we’d be heading to the unemployment line. But there are some people who actually get paid to snooze. This type of job typically involves participating in sleep research projects at hospitals and universities, but there are even stranger ways to be a professional sleeper. The New Museum of Contemporary Art put out want ads in January 2009 seeking women willing to come in, take a sleeping pill and zonk out during the museum’s opening hours. The women who got the jobs then became living museum exhibitions titled after their own names, such as ‘This is Kate’, pictured above.

The Best Anti-Aging Foods: Part II

A few weeks ago I posted this article regarding the best types of foods with which to fill your diet, in order to help slow the aging process. Here is another one I ran across, which is a bit more specific. A good read nonetheless.

It seems to go without saying, but the foods you eat, much like the gas you put in your Hummer, have a huge impact on your body’s performance. Given this – and the fact that we’re basically on a slow decline to death from the moment we’re born – you’d think we’d care more about what goes into our mouths. Instead, we gorge ourselves on fast food and spend thousands of dollars on anti-aging “miracle” treatments that claim to undo the years of damaged we’ve inflicted on ourselves by ingesting things we can’t even pronounce.

There are plenty of foods, however, that can nourish you and help keep age-related demons like cancer, dementia and osteoporosis at bay. They’ll also whittle your waistline, which is something that study after study shows increases longevity and improves overall health. Excess weight contributes to a whole host of life-shortening problems; a joint study between the National Institute on Aging (Bethesda, MD), the National Institute of Public Health and Environmental Protection (Bilthoven, Netherlands) and the National Center for Health Statistics (Hyattsville, MD) concluded that “heavier weight in late middle age [is] a risk factor for coronary heart disease in late life,” and the American Cancer Society estimates that excess weight is linked to more than 90,000 deaths annually.

Ready to age gracefully? Read on to find out which foods you should add to your diet in order to add years to your life.

Garlic
Once thought only to be useful in warding off vampires and unattractive blind dates, garlic has turned out to be a nutritional superstar that adds a wealth of taste to dishes without adding excess calories. Allicin, which is responsible for garlic’s strong smell and biting flavor, is actually an extremely potent antioxidant, and research published by the National Academy of Sciences shows that eating garlic appears to boost the body’s natural supply of hydrogen sulfide, which is manufactured by the body as an antioxidant and means of transmitting cellular signals that relax blood vessels and increase blood flow. Dr. David W. Kraus, associate professor of environmental science and biology at the University of Alabama and author of a large-scale study on the health benefits of garlic, advises crushing garlic and letting it sit for 15 minutes before cooking it in order to trigger a reaction that boosts the healthy compounds in the plant.

I Couldn't Have Said It Better Myself

..well except for the last 8 words. Otherwise I think this is a pristine attempt by one of the most famous persons there is to take full advantage of all the laws protecting the people of this country. What better way is there to show our government and its people that we the people are the owners of its own government - much moreso to our government's current challengers - that we the people are the owners of its own government.

As you all know, I had a single-car accident earlier this week, and sustained some injuries. I have some cuts, bruising and right now I'm pretty sore.

This situation is my fault, and it's obviously embarrassing to my family and me. I'm human and I'm not perfect. I will certainly make sure this doesn't happen again.

This is a private matter and I want to keep it that way. Although I understand there is curiosity, the many false, unfounded and malicious rumors that are currently circulating about my family and me are irresponsible.

The only person responsible for the accident is me. My wife, Elin, acted courageously when she saw I was hurt and in trouble. She was the first person to help me. Any other assertion is absolutely false.

This incident has been stressful and very difficult for Elin, our family and me. I appreciate all the concern and well wishes that we have received. But, I would also ask for some understanding that my family and I deserve some privacy no matter how intrusive some people can be.
